Of course something bad will happen if you take sth.ġ) Belchorz is insane and a beholder. Again, if the characters think there will be no consequences to taking gold from a locked seemingly empty room, they haven't grasped Acererak's concepts at all. He only engages when they try to steal, he won't shut the door behind them, etc etc. If you don't want them to risk TPK, make the room clearly optional, less interesting, and Belchorz less hostile. ![]() They checked every room and eventually came to terms that they'd have to check out the creepy room left. My answer to it being deadly and optional and cool was to not make it optional, lol. Why would you enter an optional room here? If you get greedy because there might be loot, you brought it upon yourself. remind them that this is a death trap by Acererak. Any other idea ? Have you done something or planning to do something to change this room ?.May even be an crucial clue about how not to die in a following challenge. What interesting reward could be there ? I know I could just put more treasure but if they succeed I would like them to think "okay this will really help us survive this dungeon, we're glad we did it".If a fight occurs, any idea how I could help them not being annihilated by rays before even understanding what is happening ? Maybe some advices given by the trickster gods they carry ?.What kind of deal could they strike with Belchorz ? RAW he doesn't do anything but mumble insults in a language nobody understands. Some of the players are the "always try to talk" type. So, I'm looking for ideas on how to improve the situation. Most probably at least one if not several/all of the PCs will die and eventually they will be like "wait, did we really spent several sessions to collect those eyes just to lose half the party in an optional fight for a reward of some gold we will never spend and a +1 shield ?". They aren't DnD nerds either : most don't even know what a beholder is, so all the "this isn't just a beholder, but an invisible one !" thing will fall flat.I seriously doubt they can do it, too many rays can just easily destroy them. My players (4 level 8, barbarian druid rogue warlock) aren't optimizers, and this fight is brutal. For more information about Wizards of the Coast or any of Wizards' trademarks or other intellectual property, please visit their website at My players are in the third floor of the tomb and started collecting eyes for the vault of the Beholder and I'm really conflicted with what will probably happen there, if done RAW : For example, Dungeons & Dragons® is a trademark of Wizards of the Coast. ![]() This subreddit may use the trademarks and other intellectual property of Wizards of the Coast LLC, which is permitted under Wizards' Fan Site Policy.
